How to be a Grab driver in Malaysia (Updated 2019)

I know you want to know the process. I will straight forward. Answer this question first before even thinking of becoming a part time or full time Grab driver.

If you have fulfilled all these requirement, then you are eligible to become Grab driver like me!

What are the requirements to be a Grab Driver?

Nationality: Malaysian

MyKad or identity card Malaysia

Basically if you want to drive in Malaysia, you must be a Malaysian citizen.

A Malaysia citizen must have Malaysia identity card (I/C or MyKad) to proof your nationality.

Vehicle: Have a suitable car, sedan, SUV or MPV

Since you will be getting passengers in your car, you must have suitable transportation.

You must own a sedan with 4 doors. The manufactured date must not be more than 10 years old from now.

You can also drive an SUV or MPV. These provide extra comfort to your passenger. Please refer to the updated list from Grab website.

If you don’t own any car, fret not. As long as your name is included in the ConNote of the car insurance. That will do.

Age requirement

You must be between 19 to 69 years old. Even if you get your driving license at 17 years old, you still have to wait the probation period ‘P’ license to be completed.

But if you are too old, more than 70 years old, there might be an issue with your own health and safety of passengers.

License type: Complete/Full D license

You need a completed D or full driving license. Not your P or probation driving license. You must show your skill and attitude on the road. This is also to show that you are experienced and competent driver.

PSV License

This is Malaysian government latest requirement effective October 2019. On top of the complete D license, you are required to sit for another test to get PSV. PSV stands for public service vehicle.

Past records is not allowed

You cannot have speeding ticket not more than 3 years. You also most not have any criminal records to become our driver.

How to register as Grab driver in Malaysia?

Once you have fulfilled all requirements, you can continue with the registration process.

In order for you to signing up for Grab, there are two ways to register, the conventional vs modern way.

1 – Register the conventional way

You have to bring all these documents, hard copy of your IC, license and so on to the nearest Grab kiosk.

2 – Register using modern & easier way

As Alpha Grab Drivers, we are allowed to assist new drivers to join Grab. The modern way doesn’t need you to bring all documents and stuff.

Trivia for Future Grabcar Drivers

  1. During peak hours, there will be surcharge. This is where drivers make extra cash from each ride.
  2. When you use driver app, be careful when you use auto accept function. If you need to rest, just turn the feature off.
  3. There are more than 10,000 Grabcar drivers all over Klang Valley. In Kuala Lumpur, there are 10,000 drivers while In Johor Bahru along, there are almost 5,000 drivers.
  4. If you introduce your friend to join as Grab partner, make sure to do it directly at offices. If you manage to get new drivers’ sign up, you can earn referral bonuses.

Grab In a Glance

Grab is an e-hailing car service started at MyTeksi in 2010. In 2018, Grab signed a deal with Uber where Uber is no longer operating in Southeast Asia.
